The Australian Labour party was originaly formed to repreesnt the working people of Australia. However it has long since been taken over by Rhodes scholars and lawyer and has become an alterante liberal party.
it was todo with their link/care for the working class (generally doing manual labour etc in industrial britain) they appeal to this "lower" class and thus took on the name Labour.

The Greens Party in Australia does run for federal electorates. Until 2010, however, the Greens Party had never been elected into the lower house of Parliament.
