there are occasional outdoor ( Blessings) of animals, usually pets but conceivably Farm and service animals. these are rituals not too different than Commissioning a Ship, or another inanimate object. they are, out of doors and are rituals- not in any sense of the word Masses or Sacraments. the Vatican has never championed the idea of (Animal Rights) let alone Animal Rites! Pope Leo XIII somewhat opposed an Italian equivalent of the A.S.P.C.A. and declared Catholics had no specific duty towards animals. This was in the late nineteenth century.l By the4 Way Pope Leo was an avid Hunter! The Church does not , to my knowledge, oppose sportive hunting, in fact there is a St.Hubert a patron of the chase! The idea of a special mortuary comemorative rite for animals-is outside the pale. The same applies to the Russian Orthodox. a Friend of my Mother"s daughter went (Way out) when her dog died, and callled up the RO minister, she wanted him to give the Dog the Last Rites of the4 Russian Church, The Clergyman angrily refused! this happened about ten years ago, By the way the Dog was a beautiful Borzoi named Pooka- before the Anastasia film came out. a related angle, they ( the RC churchmen) while they did not ban them, were never too keen on Animal Cartoons and tried to keep them away from kids, at any rate not in their textbooks. The argument was they were of Pagan (Aesop) origin, some truth in that.
