There are three different answers to this question:
1. Your eyes are exposed to less light than usual so your eyes expand to let in more light. (they contract when more light is let in the area)
2. You have been drinking a lot or some alcohol, the substance dilates your pupils.
3. You have a rare, but real, disorder where your pupils are naturally dilated and they cannot contract.

∙ 14y agoPupils of the eyes dilate (get bigger)in low light conditions. The iris opens fully to get as much light to the retina as possible. Switch the light on and watch the pupil get smaller whilst looking in a mirror.
