No, in fact the Cornish hen sold in grocery stores if often just a young meat chicken of various breeds. True Cornish hens are game birds. Poor foragers they are easily contained and quite docile birds for a game hen. Raise as for any breed of chicken.
The breed is often crossed with Plymouth rock hens, raised to 1 or 2 pounds and processed for meat.

∙ 15y agoThe Cornish hen is much smaller than a regular baking hen. By regulation, a Cornish must be no larger than 2 lbs. Birds are classified by their size. The exact same breed and variety can be raised to be "Cornish Game Hens" (2# and under) Broilers (an be 2.1# up to 8#) and roasters (are usually over 6#)
