The most common fertilizer would contain nitrogen. Bacteria in the root nodules of legumes (alfalfa, etc) fix their own nitrogen. Farmers add ammonium nitrate and other nitrates to the soil of crops that lack these bacteria in their roots.

The best nutrients for gardens and flowers are nitrogen (promotes healthy foliage), phosphorus (stimulates root systems) and potassium (aids in flower and fruit formation). The nutrient label will list the nutrient values in the order of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and then potassium (K). There will be a number for each, representing the percentage of each nutrient compared to the filler ingredient. A 10-10-10 fertilizer contains 10 percent of each nutrient. As long as these values are good then it is a good fertilizer. Then, all you need to worry about is the absorbency factor, such as waxy or hairy leaved plants aren't as good with spray formula's and would prefer a slow release or simple fertilizer instead.

You would want something high in Phosphorus and Potassium. You don't want anything high in Nitrogen. :-)

Plants will not grow without water. With water they will grow in their natural state. Given fertiliser they will normally grow better but still need water.

Balanced, slow-release, 10-10-10 fertilizer describes the best fertilizer for plumbago. The numbers identify the nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium ratios. The herbaceous plants and shrubs in question need well-drained soils with neutral soil pHs (power of hydrogen) and therefore will not tolerate fertilizers for acid- or alkaline-loving plants.
