Scheduled Airlines such as Virgin, Continental and American Airlines are garanteed a departure and arrival slot, If for any reason there was a delay and there were more than one aircraft waiting to depart or land, the scheduled Airlines have priority and are put in front of the charter Airlines.
Charter Airline like EasyJet or RyanAir are not definitely garanteed a take off time, they just have to hope that no sheduled airlines are delayed!
