Considering Revelation 12:9, I'd say the shiny one was a shiny dragon. A spiritual being created as a candidate for being a coequal companion with Adam, but not chosen as such. Eve was chosen. The dragon may have then been resentful and jealous, and after tempting Eve, was cursed into being a serpent. And after the great flood, was Satan.

"The Shiney One" was more subtle than any beast of the field.
The question is then, who is this subtle, shiny being who tells Eve that ... God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as God, knowing good and evil. ?
Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field. וְהַנָּחָשׁ, הָיָה עָרוּם, מִכֹּל חַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה, אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה יְהוָה
