• Well, either you mean the band or the demon: The Band:Incubus rose to become one of the most popular alt-metal bands of the new millennium, setting themselves apart from a crowded field with a somewhat less-negative outlook and tireless touring. Formed in 1991 in the San Fernando Valley suburb of Calabasas, CA, group members Brandon Boyd (vocals, percussion), Mike Einziger (guitar), Alex Katunich (aka Dirk Lance; bass), and Jos� Pasillas (drums) were all tenth grade classmates when they got together. Their early funk-metal sound was heavily influenced by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but broadened over the next few years to incorporate thrash, rap-metal, post-grunge rock, and grinding alt-metal � la Korn or the Deftones. The Demon: In medieval European folklore, the incubus is a male demon (or evil spirit) who visits women in their sleep to lie with them in ghostly sexual intercourse. The woman who falls victim to an incubus will not awaken, although may experience it in a dream. Should she get pregnant the child will grow inside her as any normal child, except that it will possess supernatural capabilities. Usually the child grows into a person of evil intent or a powerful wizard. Legend has it that the magician Merlin was the result of the union of an incubus and a nun. A succubus is the female variety, and she concentrates herself on men.

• If it's not the band then it's this: According to one legend, the incubus and the succubus were fallen angels. The Incubus: According to the church fathers, the incubus was an angel who fell from grace because of his insatiable lust for women. As a demon, the incubus continued with his carnal desires, preying upon vulnerable women, raping them in their sleep or provoking in them sexual desires that only the incubus (sometimes known as the demon lover) could satisfy.

• It is a sex demon that preys on women while they sleep. Its female equivalent is the Succubus. An Incubus in ancient greek mythology is a male demon who visits women who are asleep and either rapes them, penetrates them or has complete sexual intercourse with them. The woman will then get pregnant and the baby will grow up to be a normal child but the child will possess supernatural abilities such as Black Magic, Voodoo or psychic powers. People believe that the last RECORDED Incubus child was born in 1876 by a woman named Dorethy Williamson who lived in Longton, Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire. She died while giving birth. The opposite to a Incubus is a Succubus.
