The first known pistol grip shotgun is called a backpacker shotgun, with a shorter barrel, and shorter overall length. This is a very popular version of the shotgun, mostly purchased for home defense.
Depends on if it came that way originally and the barrel length.
I certainly don`t know of any law against a pistol grip on a shotgun in our state of Wisconsin, this is the state I live in and I know many law-abiding hunter that have pistol grips on their shotguns , I mean what would be the sense of making that illegal it`s no more dangerous than just a regular grip I think.
A pistol grip shotgun ( they made a .410 Handy Gun with a ball sight ) is useful with small shot or if you are using slugs. Careful, the length of the gun must still be legal. Often dramatized in movies ( MAD MAX, sawed-off 12 ga. with a pistol grip is one of many ) they show the shooter using one hand stuck straight out......No way !!, The blowback will break your wrist or literally fly out of your hand.
You cannot purchase a pistol grip for Hatsan/Escort shotguns. It is illegal to sell/buy pistol grips for any shotgun mfg. outside of the United States.
If you are speaking of having only a pistol grip & not a stock, the answer is NO. If you wish to add a pistol grip & have the stock on at the same time, the answer is maybe, it is a matter of how much gunsmithing you wish to pay for. In general, a good gunsmith can do anything if you have the money and it is legal. lcj
