What is the Socratic Method? |
[Edit] |
A pedagogical technique in which a teacher does not give information directly but instead asks a series of questions, with the result that the student comes either to the desired knowledge by answering the questions or to a deeper awareness of the limits of knowledge.
It is a form of teaching that allows the student to realize the answer through inductive reasoning, this in my personal belief is a better form of teaching then the standard. This way it allows the student to find the answer rather that be taught it and inspired to memorize it. This inductive reasoning skates the fine line of experience vs knowledge.
It does so in a way through base definition of experience, being self discovery and first hand thought. The Socratic method is nothing but the emphasis of self discovery and first hand thought.
