If one wants to send money to a Standard Bank account using internet banking, one can use Standard Bank's IBT code which is 051001 (a six figure code). You don't need to use the branch code if you are using internet banking. This code covers all branches. Most internet banking webpages have this code available on their systems, and one has simply to search for it on your own internet banking webpage.

∙ 13y agoThe IBAN is NOT the same as the SWIFT code. The IBAN is a unique combination of the bank account numbers as well as the branch codes.
The Swift code however is the same as the European BIC which actually refers to a type of bank branch identification code.
ISO 13616-compliant national IBAN formats have been registered for 46 countries and states, most of them in Europe, but also including Israel, Malta, Mauritius, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Turkey.
As South Africa has no registered format, it is impossible to create a valid IBAN for your South African account. When giving bank details for international transfers, you should give the normal details including the bank name, branch address and code, the SWIFT code and the account number.

For payments you would need the BIC (Bank Identifier Code) of Standard Bank: SBZAZAJJ. In addition to the account numbers, there are branch codes in South Africa
