"In the Family" by Maria Elena Llano is a story about a family who realizes that the mirror in their living room is inhabited by deceased members of their family. The family quickly adjusts to this new turn of events when a cousin, Clara comes home from a vacation. Anything that Clara says goes, so when she wanted to move the mirror into the dining room, no one questioned her. The family became used to eating next to their dead loved ones until, "each day we became less and less sure about which side was life and which its reflection" (Llano pg 860). One day, Clara asked the family in the mirror to pass the salad, which she ate. She quickly died, and the next day she was present in the mirror.
