It's called a Morgan Dollar not a lady liberty dollar. The 1882-S is a common date/mint Morgan, circulated coins are valued at $17.00-$26.00

It is necessary to know the amount of wear and mint mark (if it has one) to be able to make an estimate of value. I would suggest you take your coin to a reliable dealer and have it appraised.

On the front of a Trade Dollar it has Lady Liberty seated facing the left and on the back below the eagle TRADE DOLLAR. A Morgan Dollar has the head of Lady Liberty on the front.

The back of the Walking Liberty half dollar has an eagle on it. The sun is located on the front of the coin just left of Lady Liberty.
The date should be on the front of the coin below the picture of Miss Liberty.

To clear things up, the "lady" is Miss Liberty, and "V" is of course the Roman numeral for 5.However, the last Liberty Head nickels were struck for circulation in 1912 so your coin can't be dated 1981.
