Does it have a hallmark? Strawbaum is a very rare surname. My grandfather was an antique dealer and his surname was Strawbaum. He was originally trading in Yorkshire but moved to Brighton. I will have to ask my mother for the dates. His father - my great grandfather - apparently left his family with his eldest son and moved to Kimberley to join the search for diamonds. I would be interested to buy this watch if you still have it. I don't know the value but it should be possible to find out from the condition and the date. I expect that someone who deals in antique watches would know the value. My email address is John22L@aol.com. I would be interested to see photos of the watch and the engraving. I'm just guessing but maybe my great grandfather went into business with someone called Rigal in Kimberley.

That's entirely dependent upon your definition of "antique." The Westclox Pocket Bens were made throughout the 1950s in LaSalle-Peru, IL. Perhaps these watches would be more correctly called "vintage."

One of the best places to look for pocket watch antiques would probably be eBay. You could also try a specialty antique store like Bogoff's. They have rare pocket watches for sale.
Antique pocket watches generally have one of two ways to be wound: 1. A winding stem, similar to a windup wrist watch; 2. A winding key, like older wind up toys.
You can own one, and keep it in your home as an antique, but you can't carry it.
The most popular way to sell pocket watches is through EBay. But to do that you need to have some idea of its value. This can vary greatly depending on the make of the watch, the type of movement, what it is made of and its overall condition. To get some idea of the value, you can google "Antique Pocket Watches" and visit the sites that sell pocket watches and see if one similar to yours is there.
