The Wii U is Nintendo's latest console, released between November 18th and December 12th 2012 in various parts of the world. Its flagship feature, the Wii U Gamepad, is a controller with a large touch screen in its center that can be utilized in a number of ways, such as a second screen (much like the Nintendo DS) or to display the game on the gamepad screen instead of the TV, so that the Wii U can be played while the TV is being used for something else.
Wii U's online infrastructure has also been greatly improved over previous consoles with Nintendo Network, which gives some of the online features that other consoles have such as downloadable content and the ability to push out game updates online. Also included in its online functionality is Miiverse; a console-exclusive social network.
The Wii U is also the first Nintendo console to support high definition resolutions, going up to 1080p.
