Mercury is a toxic substance to be used anywhere in human body. It acts as a cumulative poison i.e. it accumulates in body in kidneys especially causing kidney failure. In ayurved mercury is not used directly in medicinal preparation. It is initially purified as per ayurvedic literature and then mixed with yellow phosphorus. It transformed into a black powder through a ayurvedic process. This powder is called as kajjali. Now this powder is used in various forms and through various processes in many medicines. It is not used in all medicines. It acts as catalyst in various formulations. It is completely safe to take ayurvedic medicines containing mercury unless it is produced in good ayurvedic pharmaceutical company.
there are many medicines such as-sutshekhar,aarogyavardhini etc. but these medicines have shodhit para i.e.Hg processed by some shodhan kriya's. when we use these medicines doesn't harmful to us. Normally, without this Shodhan it causes poisoning as getting deposited in kidney. In ayurveic medicines it is combined with other drug's.If you want to know it in detail, talk with any Ayuvedic doctor-B.A.M.S./MD
