There are a few. Vector graphics are more "scalable" than raster graphics. By this, I mean you can draw a design that's six inches high, enlarge it to four feet high, and still have it look sharp. If you did that with a Photoshop file, the picture would become extremely jagged. Vector graphics' filesizes are smaller than raster graphics' filesizes. If I were to build a 12-inch square item at 60dpi, which is my standard resolution (you can get away with that if you're printing things that are to be viewed at a distance), and I did it in Photoshop, the file would be about 2MB. In Illustrator, it would be less than half that. I have a customer who gets pickups wrapped; I can do a whole pickup truck side in Illustrator in less than 20MB. That won't happen in Photoshop. Vector graphics tend to print faster than raster graphics do, and the prints are cleaner looking.

∙ 14y agoVector formats are primarily used to create original artwork. Unlike raster programs, which are pixel based, vector files can be resized any way needed without any loss of quality.
Vector programs can pretty much do anything concerning original design - what they can't do is edit raster images. You can add a raster image to a file you're working one (e.g., a Photoshop image to an Illustrator file) and then save it as a vector file, but you can't edit the Photoshop image in Illustrator.

∙ 14y agoAlthough it largely depends on what you would like to achieve with the graphic, in general the disadvantages of vector graphics are as follows:
* Depending on what you are creating, vector graphics often take time to create. * There are some effects that cannot be applied to vector graphics (i.e. blurring). * Vector graphics tend to sacrifice "realism" for "illustration". In any case, decide what you would like to achieve with the graphic. A vector graphic disadvantage may not be a disadvantage at all if that's what you want it to do.

∙ 13y agoVectors can be enlarged to any degree without loosing sharp edges. Pixel based graphics will become "jagged" if enlarged significantly - a diagonal line starts to look like a staircase-
If ou want the "pixel effect" (look at the former Xerox logo" than make your "pixels" with vectors!
