it is good for individual to work, because it is very powerful, and just can use in MS system, but it can link with other software which come from MS, e.g. word, excel, and it is cheap. You can link tables to your database from other Access databases, Excel spreadsheets, Windows SharePoint Services sites, ODBC data sources, Microsoft SQL Server databases, and other data sources. You can then use these linked tables to easily create reports so you can base your decisions on a more comprehensive set of information.

To properly answer the question would involve a lot of detail and demonstrations of linked tables, so it is not easy to understand the full advantages from just a written answer. In simple terms they can help you build more efficient databases. You can create separate tables that are easier to work with and then link them together for certain situations. Being able to link tables enables you to reduce duplication of data. Every piece of data needs to be once on a system only and this can be achieved by designing tables properly.

If you have a list of students and you want to store their name and the names of their lecturers, this can result in the lecturers names being put in more than once so that the name can be shown with each student. So if a lecturer has 20 students, their name and other details could be in the system 20 times. This takes more space and can lead to problems if details about the lecturer change. Say the lecturer changes their phone number, you could end up having to change the phone number in the 20 records that have their details. That is time consuming. If you accidentally missed out on a few of the records, you could have some of the records having one phone number for that lecturer and others having another phone number. You now have inconsistencies in the data and confusion if someone is looking for their phone number from the database. All of those problems can be avoided if a specific table is set up for the lecturers and their details, and then this table is linked to other tables, such as ones for the students or ones for the courses they lecture on. By linking them it is possible to have their details only once on the system and yet still be able to show it multiple times as if it had been entered multiple times. As mentioned at the start of the answer, it is hard to explain it without being able to demonstrate it. Still, you can be certain that there are many reasons and advantages which result in tables being linked.

Tables are used to store data in an organised manner, in fields and records. They are the most important part of a database. Everything else, like queries or forms or reports, are based ultimately on the data that is stored in the tables.
