Whereas most modern religions teach that when a person dies, the soul progresses to an afterlife in heaven or hell, or is re-incarnated in a new life on earth, secular belief is that there is no afterlife. We will live on in the memories of our loved ones, friends and acquaintances.

Atheists believe that God does not exist, that there is no soul, and no heaven or hell. We should try to live happy and fulfilling lives, be ethical and moral towards others and earn respect for our accomplishments, whatever they be. If we can do that, our loved ones, friends and acquaintances will cherish our memory.

:

Atheists accept that there is no god, afterlife, or immortal part to existence. You are not here for all of the life of the Universe that happens before you, for a brief moment you are here, then you are not for the rest of time. In the part that sees you here, we all profit if a level of altruism exists in our lives. The not being here at either end of our lives is not frightening.

I am atheist, and I believe that suffering exists in many forms, and that it can be something that a person brought upon themselves, or something we have no control over - but I do not believe that it is something put on us by a deity. And as far as death goes, we all die. Death is simply the end our lives. I absolutely do not believe that we are resurrected for some kind of judgement, and sent to heaven or hell.

Marcus Aurelius commented that life is more important than death "When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive--to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love." In general he felt that everyone dies and eventually everyone is forgotten.

The only evidence that exists suggests that when people die, their brains cease to function and their bodies decompose until they are gone.

There are umpteen million people the world wide who espouse Atheism of one form or another. It is not possible to list every single potential perspective they all hold, not do most of them hold to the same perspective.

Life after death is in direct conflict to the atheistic point of view.

Answer:

Atheists hold that there is no "life" after death as only the physical world exists. The position taken by theists that there is a immortal or spiritual part to humans is held to be wrong.

Most atheists think more of life before death. As for what they might think after death, it greatly varies from person to person. It is generally assumed they don't believe in a holy land, heaven, hell, or an afterlife, as this all can't be scientifically proven and is only based on "faith".
