Best Answer

3.0 is the standard starting point for a good GPA however it is always best to strive for something better so try to stick with at least a 3.5 if possible.

Many schools will not allow graduation, or will require special help like academic probation, if the GPA goes below a 2.5 or 2.0.

Each grade is assigned a number of quality points. Example A=12, B=9, B+= 10.5 etc. Add the total number of quality points and divide that number by the number of credits taken. Example, you complete two courses for the semester, each course is three credits each. You get an A in one and a B in the other. Total quality points equals 21. 21 divided by 6 = a GPA of 3.5 (B+).

There is no "average GPA" because your grade point average depends on where you are.
