There are no reliable studies of the life expectancy of someone who suffered from acute paralytic poliomyelitis, and survived the disease. It seems reasonable to suggest that the life expectancy of individual polio survivors may depend on, for example: (1) the degree of residual paralysis; (2) whether or not the respiratory system was affected during the acute disease; and (3) whether or not the individual has subsequently developed symptoms and signs of post-polio (which include, but are not limited to, progressively-increasing muscle weakness, muscle wasting, general fatigue, problems breathing, sleep disorders, and increased discomfort in cold temperatures).
