There is actually almost none if we're talking about commercial airline crashes. Maybe one or two in a few years than just one.

Small private planes however crash more often.

Death while ON a play (not having it crash) is about 20 a year. So statistically, sitting in your home is more dangerous than riding a plane. Which also means, that vending machines kill more people each year, than commercial airline crashes.

But if there WAS a crash, death tolls would probably be high. So as people, we feel safer while we have control of our fate, such as in a car. But isn't more safe.

If your talking about commercial airline crashes than maybe one or two (if even that)

but private airplanes crash a whole lot more. so if your spooked about flying than take a commercial airliner and try not to worry to much .

According to statistics from the National Transportation Safety Bureau, there were an average of 36 plane accidents between 1998 and 2007. Plane accidents are defined as follows from the NTSB:

"Major - an accident in which any of three conditions is met: a Part 121 aircraft was destroyed, or there were multiple fatalities, or there was one fatality and a Part 121 aircraft was substantially damaged.

Serious - an accident in which at least one of two conditions is met: there was one fatality without substantial damage to a Part 121 aircraft, or there was at least one serious injury and a Part 121 aircraft was substantially damaged.

Injury - a nonfatal accident with at least one serious injury and without substantial damage to a Part 121 aircraft.

Damage - an accident in which no person was killed or seriously injured, but in which any aircraft was substantially damaged."

Approx 200 (1 in every 1.6 million). Over 40,000 people die in North America every year on the road or due to vehicles. You are 200 times more likely to die on a road than in the air.
