You're looking at about a grand for a good one with features such as water and ice in the door. The side-by-sides have the least amount of overall storage, where as the trio styles (french door refrigerator with bottom pull out freezer) are going to have the most space, but also cost the most. Then you get to your traditional top freezer, bottom fridge and visa versa. They use their footprint space the most economically compared to the trio's and side-by-sides. Like I said though, you can get a descent side by side and some pretty good traditionals for at or under $1000. The trio's typically start at ~$1500
In the U.S. today, the average refrigerator in a typical home provides between 18 and 26 cubic feet of storage space. For an average family of four, 19-22 cubic feet is common. These figures combine both the refrigerated compartment and the freezer compartment.
Always remember that it's not just the physical dimensions of the fridge that will matter. There are usually space allotments you need to allow for, specified by the manufacturers, so that the fridge won't overheat and the doors can fully open. In general, the larger the cubic feet of the refrigerator, the deeper and wider the measurements are. Before purchasing a refrigerator, measure the space, distance from any doors that open into the room AND, measure the entry doors into the home. Sometimes, the refrigerator door can be removed as it is delivered, but you risk scrapes and dents.
There is a site called FridgeDimensions examined over a thousand refrigerator specifications to get the average dimensions for standard, counter-depth, and mini refrigerators.

There is no "average weight" for a cardboard container, since different size containers will have different weight. Is this a candy box for 2 ounces of candy, or a box for a refrigerator? They are both cardboard containers.
