They do not "start" at $70,000 a year. As of 2010 it takes a UPS driver 3 years to hit full scale wage which is around $60,000. All package car drivers make the same wage. As for vacation, 6-9 weeks of paid leave comes around the 15th year of service. It takes a driver 1 full year of service to get 2 full paid weeks of vacation with a maximum of 7 weeks paid vacation time at around the 20 year service mark. Source: I'm a UPS driver
Areas are different, in the Central Region vacations top out at 7 weeks after 25 years.

At ups freight we don't have different pay scales for different locations it is the same for everyone, starting pay is $10.50 99% of people start at part time, 3 years after you become full time you are at the "top rate" which is $24.82 as of right now and we get a raise every 6 months and overtime after 8 hours, it does not matter if you load trucks or make deliveries it pays the same, the guys who drive between terminals pulling two trailers at a time get paid by the mile while they are driving which is $.627 a mile and they get paid hourly when they are not driving but they don't get overtime.

Considering it takes 11 or more years of college to become a pediatrician, and can costs somewhere around 500,000 dollars to complete all of the training to become a pediatrician, they don't make very much money. When the earning potential of a pediatrician is compared to a person who starts work coming out of high school as a UPS driver, it takes more than 20 years for the pediatrician to catch up to the money made by the UPS driver.
