A dog will cost you quite a deal of money and time. I have a wonderful dog myself, but I do have to budget around him like I do a child. The vet bills for shots, fixing, and yearly checkups add up to around 600-700 dollars in the first year if you get the dog fixed. Then most cities require you to have a pet license our city has a 8 dollar yearly fee for that. Then you have to think about grooming and toys. That will depend on what type of dog you get but that will be around another 150-300 dollars a year. (that would be for a bigger dog, it should be much less for a smaller dog). You will also have to buy dog food about once a month on average (also depends on the dog size and breed) This price will vary by how much you are willing to spend on good food. I spend about 40 dollars a month for a really good all natural dog food. The other thing you must take into account is any vet bill you may aquire if you dog gets ill or hurt. These bills can be very high. I would recommend signing up for pet health insurance. It's a big help.

Well a dog can cost anywhere between free or very little at your local shelter, or thousands of dollars from a breeder or pet shop. I would personally recomend a designer dog or 'mutt'. They tend to have less health issues then most purebred breeds (for example pugs are very prone to breathing issues with their smooshed face... while puggles are less likely due to the beagle in them.) I happen to have a purebred chihuahua (and NO he doesnt bark a lot! :) ) and i got it for free from a breeder because of a birth defect (he has no tail).. however i would not recomend LOOKING for a 'messed up' dog.. they often have health issues. you need to accomadate money for shots and flea dip and emergency vists. (tip.. the smaller the dog often the lesser the bills)... u would love a dog. it makes life better but you need to know your facts first.

It depends on what kind of dog you have, how much it tends to eat, what it will eat, how hairy it is, and how much it sheds. The last two count because if you take your dog to a groomer's, that is going to cost money unless you brush him/her yourself. I know for my dog, it is about $50.00 or so a month. I have a Chocolate Labrador Retriever. He is cute and loving but sometimes expensive.
