It depends on what operating system you want to use. For example, the 32 bit version of Windows 7 needs at least 1GB of ram, 16 gb of free hard drive space, and a 1 ghz or better processor. If you search the wiki article of a operating system it will tell you the minimum requirements.

∙ 11y agoThere are no basic requirements. Anyone can buy a computer. If you mean what is the minimum specifications for a decent computer that is another question. I would say at least a 500 GB hard drive, 4 MB of ram, and at least a dual core processor. Remember one thing. You normally get exactly what you pay for.

A good computer must do the task it was meant to be doing well.
as of today (12/1/11) good computer should have:
- Dual (or more) core 2 Gigahertz (or more) processor
- 3 (or more) GB of ram
- 500 (or more) GB of harddisk
- some decent graphic card (there are so many)

∙ 12y agoA good computer determines what hardware it as got. The procesor, RAM and graphics card will determine if the computer performance is good or not. However, having well made hardware will make a good computer. If you have cheap hardware, your computer may die after a few years which makes it a not good computer.

a strong GPU is desirable, while a computer for video/photo editing is more dependent on much RAM and strong CPU.
A SSD (Solid State Drive) is mainly for fast write/read speeds, but the capacity vs. price is very bad! Whereas
HDD's(Hard Disk Drive) is much slower, but the capacities is ridicules and prices is low.
