You could easily write a whole book about tactics for catching carp. The fact is carp will eat virtually anthing when they are hurgry, and the right bait on the day can be anything from a single maggot to a piece of lucheon meat the size of a rubik's cube. Fishing is at its best during the warmer summer months when the fish are more active. There is, however one bait which has been developed specifically for carp whish is responsible for the majority of captures of really big fish-thats fish over 30lb(13.6kg)-durning most of the last decade. That bait is a boilie-a highly nutritional bait which comprises a combination of milk proteins, eggs, soy flour, wheatgerm, colourings and favourings which are moulded into a paste, and then rolled into balls and boiled to create a hard outer shell. To catch a big carp but out 4-5 balls of ground bait leve it for a hr and cast out a bolt rig with a boilie and a ball of ground bait every 40 mins do not over feed or the carp will eat your ground bait and not your hook bait.
BOLT RIGS
Set-ups called bolt rigs were designed specifically for carp in mind,Bolt rigs and boilies go hand in hand. The bolt rig's relies on the carp's tendency to panic when it feels the hook in its mouth, and bolts off.The rig's lead is locked in place rather than running, and a 2oz (57g) lead is usaully enough to set the hook in the carps mouth with out having to strike, enabling you to keep fishing with out having to watch your rod.
I use a bobber and a #4 hook fished about 6 inches below the surface. Cut a cherry tomato into quarters and use one of these quarters as bait. Grass carp swim around in schools close to the surface and are easy to spot from the bank. Cast your bobber in front of the school and wait till they pass. Hold on as they are sure to bite and are very strong fighters. Don't forget to set the drag on your reel before you start to fish as you will need it.
Go to Shiny Night/Lake Shiny and use luncheon meat. However, pesky Bream will sometimes get hooked. You'll know if he is v. easy to reel in.
believe it or not canned corn is one of the best carp baits.
Ive always found the more natural the bait the better ! Thats why i always use a nice lob worm (garden worm) sometimes i inject a little air into it to make it a little buoyant.
Go to lake shiny cast far with either luncheon meat or lure (better with the meat)
