  • The Beatles
Because of how many records they have sold, how many top hits they had, everyone loves them, and because they have some of the best music.

It has got to be the Beatles. Everything thing they did, was innovative and done for the first time by them. They wrote and recorded their own songs with harmonies and new and different "strange" instruments and included new effects like controlled feedback and double tracking. They revolutionized how contemporary popular music was written, played, recorded and presented.

They covered a lot of musical ground including Rock and Roll, Rock, Hard Rock, Country, Blues, Ballads, Psychedelia, Instrumentals, Soul, Folk, Indian, ie. not stuck in the rut of just one musical genre. The Beatles' music influenced their contemporaries and those who came after them; Oasis is probably the most popular Beatles tribute band. Beatle music appealed to all age groups and to people all over the world and is still being covered by major artists.

Nearly 40 years after the Beatles disbanded, they are still selling millions of the Beatles recorded work. There has never been a band like the Beatles and I doubt there ever will be again. The Beatles were and still are, the top of the heap, not just because I like them, but because they were truly a great band.

Perhaps in another 100 years, when people are still buying Beatles music, they might be elevated to Classical Masters, such as we remember Bach, Mozart and Beethoven now.

The Beatles are the best band ever. There is no contest, really. The Beatles changed the world. Led Zeppelin had great music, but they just didn't affect that world the same way the Beatles did. It is not just a matter of opinion. It is a fact. Look at what they've done. They added a whole other aspect to the world of music. They have influenced so many contemporary bands, and they will continue to influence bands.

Beatles had influence on pop, Led Zeppelin had influence in rock. Both bands had their huge popularity and influence on music.

Who is your favorite?; that's the best band for you. But for popularity, most people from the 1960 era would agree, the BEATLES. But there were so many that were right there close together in terms of exciting fresh and new innovative music with different instruments. Everybody has a favorite; John Lennon's favorite American singing artist was Harry Nillsson, "Everybody's Talkin'". Paul McCartney I heard, really dug the Beachboys; his favorite band though, The Beatles. John used to say "Where are we goin' boys?", and the band would say something like to the "To the Toppermost!", and he admitted they were the best band ever. Paul used to complain that they never got to renew their contract to give the producers, and management of the record label less money, once they got their huge success. The Beatles were made Members of the British Empire (MBE) by the Queen of England, Paul McCartney and George Martin (producer) were knighted nearly 30 years after the Beatles split up; testament to their longevity in the industry. The Beatles got to play in front of her Majesty, probably the biggest honor given to rock band, when John famously invited those in the cheap seats tho clap their hands and invited everyone else (looking, with a cheeky grin, directly at the Queen to rattle their jewelery.
  • Led Zeppelin
I think Led Zeppelin. Their songs make it on top 100 lists a lot more than the Beatles. Stairway to Heaven is considered by some to be the worlds best song. Shouldn't it make sense that the band with the best song is the worlds best band?
  • ABBA, a tour de force since 1974.
If that were true ABBA would be there too; their catalog gets played a whole lot more than Led Zep.
  • Paramore
Paramore is a good band, but you can't compare them with bands like the Beatles and Led Zeppelin. Maybe in a few years, who knows?
  • Tool
Tool should definitely be on this! One they have incredibly amazing music. Two they've influenced many other musicians. All of which the Beatles and Led Zeppelin have done. I think the correct way to measure the success of these artists is not by their record sales or the number of songs in the top spots on the charts. It should be measured by how long their music can stand the test of time. Undoubtedly the Beatles and Led Zeppelin have both stood the test of time and by the way things are looking I believe that Tool will do the same. Tool has out lasted every band from that came out the same time they did and those who came out after them, just like the Beatles and Led Zeppelin did. You seeing any patterns here. They helped music to progress, and are not copying anyone one in any way and have stayed true to their sound and yet have changed it.

As for the greatest song in the world EVER it would have to be No Quarter by Tool! How could it not? I mean it was created by Led Zeppelin and perfected by Tool two of the greatest bands on earth.
  • It is a three-way tie between the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Led Zep. (also, who ever put Bach, Mozart and Beethoven, the question says the best BAND, not musician; although their music has been sampled or used by most bands in one form or another)
  • Seriously, Bon Jovi and Hollywood Undead do not need to be on this list at all. If this goes to anyone it should be a band that makes amazing music that appeals to everyone. I would say that this would apply to Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, and the Beatles. And although metal is not recognized as much as it should, not everyone wants to listen to Metallica or Slipknot.
