a question like this has several different answers depending on who you are and where you live.
If you live in a small house with no garden like a flat a chihuahua, miniture yorkshire terrier or pug (though they can have breathing problems). these small dogs are also a good choice if you aren't prepared to walk them as much. these choices make exellent lap dogs.

If you have a large outdoor area and have plenty of energy to keep them entertained a springer or cocker spaniel would be perfect. they are also fun to train and can be great companions.

there are also many other fun breeds but those are perfectly suited to different people. remember to get your dog from a proper breeder or rescue home and NEVER from a puppy farm.
