The best strain of fowl to ever fight would be the whitehackle. They carry the blood of the North Briton fowl and the Pyle of Charles the second. From this line was created the hatch, albany, kelso, sweater, etc. The Black Irish fowl also would be in the picture as well. The whitehackle strain has proven to be consistent for centuries but now just carry a different name.

Back to the Irish black fowl, Bobby Boles crossed Irish Blacks with Oriental fowl and was one of the greatest cockfighters to live.

There is many great strains of gamecocks and just because it's a whitehackle doesn't make it the best. Name is just a name and not all names are equal. The whitehackle has been outcrossed on irish black fowl to make the hatch fowl we know today and in today's competition (no longer legal in US) is by far the superior line. The sweaters where made from hatch lines bred with Kelso lines (very similar) which dominates competition in the Philippines and Mexico.

Lastly, the roundhead, albany, hatch, sweater, shawlneck, general, and practically every other consistent breed goes back to the whitehackle. The only fowl you may find that would be as good (most likely not as consistent) would be the old Irish fowl. Muffs, Toppies, Blacks, Red Quill would be what to look for. (very rare) If you can find the old Sid Taylor fowl you would find a superior line of black fighting cocks.

Fighting roosters are illegal. Most are found. More than 91% have been dicovered and arrested. It is animals cruelty and you can have upto 7 years in jail just for having one rooster fight or any other fight involving animals. Please do not ruin you're record and you're life.

There are several but for the most part, the line is far more important than the breed, and most good fighting lines have had genocide performed on them by the animal rights crowd. You can forget cockfighting, enjoy a bucket of fried chicken at a football game while you still can.
