What is the best font for a cover letter?
Answer:
Answer
If you're emailing your cover letter along with your resume it should be in Courier New 10 pt. Also, all tabs and bullets should be removed.
Answer
I respectfully disagree with the above answer. Times New Roman is the accepted font for professional documents. In addition, there are different formats you can use for a cover letter, but whatever format you choose it should short and have impact. For that reason, bullet points or even a table are acceptable. The employer will read hundreds, if not thousands, of resumes. Listing highlights or qualifications that catch the eye can be very effective.
Answer
I'm sorry, but both of those are ridiculous. Courier is a font for programming in and Times is for Newspapers. I recommend Bell MT for a serif font, and Tahoma for sans serif. Overall, serif is better for print, sans for screen.

I totally agree with all you guys, but as far my research on internet and through professional people is concerned, i think Arial Narrow and Times New Roman is the ideal font for drafting mails....also Franklin Gothic Medium Cond is also impressive but not suggested as professional. Thanks

Anything, anything, anything but Comic Sans or Papyrus. There are places for those font types, but please, never bring them into the professional world. As far as I believe, a simple font such as Times New Roman would suffice, but it may get looked over. Most of the above choices are professional, and it is a matter of personal preference, readability, and uniqueness that makes it stand out just enough to get that extra second of reading time. Good luck!

There are no rules, just guidelines, and I suggest going for whatever constitutes a professional looking layout. (I like a font called Futura Light for a sans serif.) I think it can be a challenge to choose a font with a serif because what looks good in a book or a magazine or a standard e-mail can look commonplace or boring in a resume. I like to stand back and look at the entire layout. It just needs to look great.
