What is the best lubricant for anal sex?
Answer:
If you are using condoms (and you SHOULD be using condoms) don't use anything other than water or silicone based lubricants. Petroleum based lubricants (e.g. Vaseline) can break down the condom and will also destroy many sex toys. If using a silicone based lube, be sure NOT to use silicone or some "flesh" toys as it will cause them to "dissolve". If you are using a silicone lube with silicone toys, make sure to cover it with a condom to avoid breakdown. Astroglide is highly recommended and seems to be the top rated anal lubricant in every article I've read on the web. Other highly rated lubes would include Eros and System JO, which both come in water and silicone based varieties.
The "desensitizing" creams are not recommended, especially for first timers. While they are pretty effective at numbing the area, anyone experimenting anally for the first time needs to be VERY aware of how their body is feeling.
