If you're selling generic things which might have a broad market and you don't mind an international clientele, e-bay is a good site; for local sales craig's list is good; for more specific types of sales, more specific sales sites are good. Amazon zshops are ok for everything from books to other weird stuff, Atomic Avenue is good for selling your comics, Abebooks is excellent for used book sellers, Lulu is good for self-publishing, Deviant Art is good for selling custom artwork - prints & etc, Cafe Press is good for selling custom t-shirts and stuff...

It's really a subjective thing, and it depends on what you want to sell and how much of it you're selling. .
