Small-block Chevy The 454 Chevy big block offered much more available power but was horrible on fuel economy.

I believe the Chevy small block is the best bet for ease of change over and thecheapest.
Chevy 327 Small Block, or Chevy 427 Big Block for horsepower, being bullet proof, very inexpensive, lasts a lifetime. Just really personal opinion really. :)
Go to search on your computer and type in small block Chevy engine ID and you should find your answer there.Most 350s id#end with 010,which is a early engine,and if heads are off there will be a small hole between the two center head bolt holes.But the best way is ID#s.Hope that helps.
Chevy 350 bored 60 over. .... not the best way to come to a 358... The "NASCAR" way is to use a 400sbc block and a 327sbc crank. High revving and big hp up top.
That would be the very first v-8 Chevy made. 265 CID engine. It will be hard to find. The good o 350 engine is a good 1 to modify also. IF DOON RIGHT.

It depends on what you are going to do with them.Pulling big loads are hauling alot, the big block is nice.The small block is by far the best engine for all round use. It is cheaper to maintain too.
