Your frogs would do best in an "ADF only" tank, where there isn't much competition for food. But you can keep some very peaceful and slow going fish such as, Platys, Guppies, and some loaches.

∙ 15y agoFor true compatibility always select fish that require the same kind of alkaline water conditions. This restricts your choices to " fish from the same or similar sources". ie other Africans. It is easier to say what fish are not compatible. The answer to that is Most Fish are not compatible with 'Africans' and fish from the 'Amazon' are probably the least compatible.

You should NEVER try to mix African Cichlids with Amazonian Cichlids. It simply can not work. If your tank is set up properly for Africans your water conditions will be slowly killing the Oscar. Please for the Oscars sake get it out of there and in future do some homework/research before mixing species together.

I think that would probably be fine. Although africans are quite aggressive, they tend to ignore bottom dwelling fish like rainbow sharks. I've seen it done before. If you are looking for a bottom feeder for an African tank that is guaranteed to work, get yourself a synodontis catfish. They are from the same lakes, get along with cichlids, and can be stunningly beautiful.

The rule of thumb is to not put any more fish in the tank than 1 inch of fish per gallon. Also, you will have better results if your tank has good aeration. When you change water in the tank, avoid changing out more than 10% at a time because the growth of the fish will remain stunted by the buildup of hormones that they secrete into the water. What fish go good with firemouth cichlids?
Firemouth cichlid (Cichlasoma meeki) are fairly large fish growing out to about 6 inches. A reasonable sized tank for a pair of firemouths (and nothing else) would be 36 inch x 18 inch x 18inch. If you wish to keep other fish with them they will have to be fairly large fish. Select from the other mid sized cichlids from South America. You can not keep African cichlids with South American ones successfully. To house these types of largish fish you will probably need to have at least a 6 foot tank or larger.

No way. Pacus come from the Amazon and their required water parameters (soft and acid) are as different from those required by African Cichlids (hard and alkaline) as could possibly be imagined. Pacus are not really suited to aquarium life anyway because they grow to well over 60 lbs in weight and are much too large for a tiny 20 gallon tank.
How big does your tank for two red cichlids have to be?
Red cichlids I am assuming as red devil cichlids and in which case at least a 75 gallon as they get upwards of 13 inches. Also, additional fish in the tank would diminish any aggressive behavior so they would not be focused on one another.
