Hi, I have found that first you have to score it (wallpaper scoring tool - very inexpensive). The best thing I have found so far to get any kind of wallpaper off is a wallopaper steamer (you can rent one easily). it works the best. Some people swear by vinegar but that is too much elbow grease for me! good luck!

∙ 7y agoTry scoring the wallpaper then spray equal parts vinegar and water on the wallpaper.
call a pro. do NOT score the paper without trying to remove the vinyl fronting first. then spray the paper backing with a chemical paste remover such as DIF and pray to the wallpaper gods that it isn't hung over bare drywall. if it is, refer to the first 3 words of this suggestion!---

I just wanted to add this on. The previous poster is right. It's hard, it's messy, and both times that I've done it, I've wanted not to. However, if you are still leaning towards doing it yourself, I saw some tips here that I wished I had 2 years ago. Good luck!

∙ 11y agoyou can buy a wallpaper steam stripper from diy stores, pretty successful results. or alternatively, score the paper carefully so as not to damage plaster under, then give a good soaking with sponge and dishwasher liquid mixed in warm water. the paper should come away fairly easily with a good scraper.
Prepare the room (the work can be messy) and wear appropriate protection on yourself, then start tearing the wallpaper from a corner. Soak the wallpaper with hot water to make it easier to remove. Scrape the remains with a metal spatula.

∙ 13y agoFirst you need to make a water and vinegar mixture, but before you do anything with it, use a tiger score to put holes in the wallpaper. Then use a sponge to soak the wallpaper with the mixture. Start peeling the top layer off then re-apply the mixture to the under layer and remove that with your hands or a scraping device. The mixture will not damage your floors, walls, etc. Other chemicals usually don't work and will sometimes destroy your wood molding or floors.

∙ 14y agohello, friends of ours bought a home that had wallpaper on nearly every wall. They used Downy fabric softner with warm water and sprayed it on with a spray bottle. Left it stand for a minute or two and then scraped off the paper and adhesive all in one shot. I hope this helped you. Take care.

∙ 11y agoThe best way to remove wallpaper glue is to a use a heavy duty cleaner, such as 409, and spray and rub vigorously. White vinegar is also frequently used as well. The important consideration is to rub thoroughly.
