What is the best way to keep birds out of the orchard? |
[Edit] |
Some things that may help are to either go to the expense of buying netting, or try hanging shining things in the tree - such as foil strips (like IrriTape) or empty foil pie dishes. You can also purchase fake hawks or owls to deter birds. There are also other roost inhibitors available, such as BirdProof (http://www.bird-x.com/products/bproof.html) which is a sprayable, non-toxic compound that makes the branches sticky and unpleasant for birds to be on.
Any single one of these methods may be more or less effective for each problem-- one component of most successful bird control systems is using multiple products. Bird control products tend to work synergistically, bothering multiple senses of birds for example, or harassing them in different ways.
Answer
place rubber snakes in or around the tree.
