Compress the large file using various compression programs available .....
E.g. WinZip (available with Windows XP)
Another way is to trasfer the large files as binary files using special protocols such as FTP (File Transfer Protocol) or a Telnet client programs using which you can connect to a destination machine and then can transfer then quickly and easily.
