Depending on the season you pretty much have the same options as elsewhere in the world except there are no trains in Iceland. During the summertime tourists generally use domestic flights, buses and rent a cars, but there are always quite a few that choose to explore Iceland by motorcycle, bicycle or even walking. Most people living in Iceland own a car though so when they travel they usually just use their car but some also use buses or flights, particularly when traveling to and from places which are far apart or have bad access/roads. In wintertime the safest way to travel for tourists is with buses, especially in bad weather. Flights are routinely cancelled or delayed and it can be very difficult for someone not used to the weather or road conditions in high winter to drive in Iceland. Icelandic people living in the countryside (outside the capital) are however mostly used to the harsh driving conditions and still mainly use their car for travel. People living in the capital are generally not very good at driving in bad conditions because of a lack of experience. But there are many people, both in and out of the capital, that own specially modified SUVs that are designed to drive in those bad conditions and worse. They are in fact modified for driving on glaciers.

Flying is the easiest way but it is quite possible to go there by ship also. In fact there is a ferry (Norröna) that sails between Iceland, Faroe Islands, Denmark and Norway but they don´t accept passengers to Iceland from late October til early March.

People travel in Iceland just like other countries. They use cars, bikes, buses, airplanes, boats and walk. There are so many travel companies are available to provide transportation and guide to travelers. When I had gone to Iceland, I traveled there by help of (Gotojoyiceland.is). The company provided all transportation and tour guide to me.
