First of all, hunting over bait is illegal. "Field Plots," often a cultivated field of clover is an effective, and legal, way to attract deer, especially in the east. In the west where soybeans are a common crop, setting up watch on the edge of such a field is probably the best and easiest way to descry the animals.
For non-hunting applications, feeders filled with corn will certainly attract deer. Salt licks can also supply much needed nutrients.

First off, I don't know who left this message. Baiting deer is only illegal in states that make it that way. I hunt in some of the thickest nastiest areas in Washington state and if we weren't able to use some kind of attractant, we would never kill the 40,000 deer a year that we do. Our state would be over run. I personally use a compressed corn and molasses block. The deer love this stuff. C'mereDeer is a good one as well, but they literally eat all of it and you have to keep replacing it. The blocks last anywhere from 4 days to 2 weeks depending on deer concentrations. Oh, and if there is a moose in the area, your block won't last near as long.
Good Luck

I agree with the second poster.. If your gonna answer a question.. make sure you know what your talking about.
each state has its own set of laws pertaining to baiting.. make sure you know the law about baiting in your area before doing it.
Apples work great .. Peanut butter is good.. corn is a good bait especially when the snow is on the ground and there is not much to eat.
I like to use apples and corn together.. just dump them on the ground right next to each other..
Good luck !!
The BEST WHITETAIL Deer Food may bring you a bunch of "subjective" answers from every corner of the whitetail range according to BigDaddy at HuntSports! High quality whitetail deer food and good habitat is critical to having trophy deer .. but you did not ask about trophy whitetails - so in my opinion, top quality natural browse would be the very best. However, the availibility of quality browse is dependant upon numerous factors in your hunting area - things such as deer density ( populations ), competition for natural browse from other wildlife only to name a couple.
If you are referring to Whitetail Food Plots - The answer may change into a subjective discussion about the actual process of developing a quality deer food plots and the whitetail deer habitat in your area. The reality of this subject is that it may take a few years of hard work to accomplish this task, and God's blessings on your efforts. But once you have developed the basics for good deer habitat and deer food plots, the results will begin to justify your efforts.
A great place to start is the QDMA - The Quality Deer Management Association - Quality Deer Management (QDM) is a management philosophy/practice that unites landowners, hunters, and managers in a common goal of producing biologically and socially balanced deer herds within existing environmental, social, and legal constraints. This approach typically involves the protection of young bucks (yearlings and some 2.5 year-olds) combined with an adequate harvest of female deer to maintain a healthy population in balance with existing habitat conditions and landowner desires. This level of deer management involves the production of quality deer (bucks, does, and fawns), quality habitat, quality hunting experiences, and, most importantly, quality hunters.
You can only have a deer repellent if you have a small area like a yard. Otherwise you have to go with deer Fencing. If you have a small area like a garden, you can use both electronic and water repellents to keep the deer away. Garden Harvest Supply has a good selection of deer repellent products.
Early, or "pre"-rut is when Bucks are establishing dominance. Buck urine, tarsal gland scent, or a food scent, are the best early in the season. Then you would go to a Doe Urine scent and finally--during the rut--go to a Doe Estrous scent. Be sure to follow the directions as proper placement and disbursement are key to success.
