This refers to the idea that the Universe, which is currently expanding, might contract again, and that all matter would combine into a very small space. This seems unlikely to happen; the observational evidence shows that the expansion of the Universe is ACCELERATING - it is expanding faster and faster.

Strangely enough -- it doesn't! Big Bang Cosmology simply describes what has happened AFTER the space within our Universe began to expand. How space and matter got there, why it began to expand, why inflation started, and why inflation stopped are all, at present, unknown -- just like the exact cause of lightning in the sky is unknown.

An excellent question! Too bad that we don't have an answer.

Some astronomers believe that the Big Bang dispersed all the matter and energy in the universe, that there ought to be a force that will draw everything back together in a "big crunch" many billions of years from now. All that galaxies that are flying apart, in this theory, should someday slow down, reverse course, and come back together. This idea of an oscillating universe, alternately expanding and contracting, is a very attractive one to many scientists who accept principles of symmetry in nature.

At present, however, we do not see enough mass in the universe to reverse the expansion and bring everything back together. This is one of the reasons for the concepts of "dark matter" and "dark energy"; if there is enough indetectable mass in the universe, perhaps the universe may be closed and there may be some incredibly distant future in which all matter crashes together - perhaps then igniting the seed of the next "big bang".

So any answer at this point would be entirely premature; considering how much we have learned in the last century, can we reasonably place any limits on what we may learn in the next?

The Big Crunch theory is when the expansion of the universe slows and the universe begins contract. The theory was that the force of gravity would make the universe implode, (gravity pulls the universe into itself) inevitably bringing the universe to an end. Recent research has proven that the universe is not contracting but instead expanding. The force that is making universe expand is called "dark energy".

It tells us that the Universe's expansion will not continue forever. Instead, at a certain point in time, it will stop expanding and collapse into itself, pulling everything with it until it eventually turns into the biggest black hole ever. Well, we all know how everything is squeezed when in that hole. Hence the name Big Crunch.

The big crunch (the closed universe) theory is that if the universe exceeds the critical density then the outwards spread of the universe will no longer be able to overcome gravity. The universe will then 'collapse' in on itself possibly into a singularity.

Big Bang Cosmology makes NO definitive statement about what happened before the space within our Universe began to expand about 13.8 billion years. BBC only states that expansion has been occurring over that time period. What happened before is, at this point, almost speculative at best.

After the big bang theory yes the universe increased but it also increased in mass, as in the fact's given to us by Edwin Hubble the redshift and the cosmetic background radiation caused a conflict and made the earth increase in mass.

The Big Bang theory explains that the Universe is expanding. Of course, if it continues expanding, at some time it must get to be a certain size. (Note that it is not currently known how large this size is.) On the other hand, according to the anthropic principle, we must be in a fairly early stage of the Universe - while there is still lots of available energy.

Post script:

Absolutely right. Just a short note to say the Universe is not only expanding, but it is accelerating its expantion, due to the still mysterious «dark energy».

Some cosmologists defend the hypothesis of the Universe will end in a «Big Rip», others defend the «Big Freeze».

Either way, we (the Human race) will not be arround to see it...

The Big Bang Theory presupposes a secular rationalization for the creation of the observable universe; i.e. the observable universe is Time bound (or has a finite existence). The Big Bang Theory present the theoretical premise for the causation, termination, and continuation of an evolutionary expansion of the universe.

The Big Bang is the dominant (and highly supported) cosmology of the beginning state of our Universe. In essence, it states that our Universe began from an initial state of very high density and temperature, which has expanded over billions of years to form a Universe as we now observe it. Together with Inflation, certain predictions of what we would see today in our Universe are made -- and pretty much all of said predictions have been confirmed.

What was the big bang theory mostly about?

The big bang theory explain the creation of everything. It gives the explanation of beginning of our universe and it's evolution

Who discover big crunch theory?

The Big Crunch Theory was not discovered by anyone. It was a theory proposed by many scientists as it does not have one person responsible for it's creation.

How is the big bang theory is an example od scienctific theory?

Hello i am minakshi answer is that the big bang theory is an example of old scientific theory as big bang theory explains that there was an explosion but the isotropy and the homogenity of the universe is not explained by big bang theory to explain his we connect inflatation theory with big bang theory to explain it so the big bang theory is also an example of old scientific theory.

How do cycles affect the universe?

No. Universe A expands from a 'Big Bang' stops expanding, and contracts until there is a 'Big Crunch'. Then there is a new big bang and the beginning of Universe B, a middle, and another big crunch, a big bang with Universe C and so on. At the time of any 'big crunch', all matter and energy from that universe ceases to exist. It cannot manifest itself until after the next 'big bang', and then has no relation to anything in its previous manifestation.

What evidence supports the pulsating universe theory?

the pulsating universe theory is when the universe expands (the big bang) then contracts (the big crunch) and so on (it's pulsating). according to this theory right now the universe is expanding, but then it will contract

What is the difference between big bang theory and big crunch theory?

The big bang theory is the explosion that started the universe. Where as the big crunch is the theory where the universe will eventually contract and become increasingly clumped and eventaully all mater would collapse into black holes which would then coalesce producing a unified black hole or Big Crunch singularity.

What theory is thought to explain the beginning of the universe?

big bang theory

Is the big yawn a trust-able theory?

All evidence shows that the Big yawn is a trustable theory as it is in action at the moment, the big crunch theory isn't too reliable, because i is no proven that the Universe has a length.

What is the scientific theory of creation?

The Big Bang theory is the current scientific theory used to explain the origin of the universe.

For how long will the Big Crunch process occur?

If "the Big Crunch" refers to the theory that the universe will eventually end in all matter and energy being slowly squeezed back into its position it was before the Big Bang, then your question sort of makes no sense. If it is true, then it will last for as long as it has to until it is in "a crunch." And, in fact, many scientists are throwing away the Big Crunch Theory and instead proposing the universe is expanding and expanding faster as time progresses, and also space will collapse in on itself or something like that.

What was the first event in the universe?

Scientists believe the "first event" in the Universe was the Big Bang. The Big Bang Theory attempts to explain how the universe was originally created.

Is there a thing called the big crunch theory?

yes it states that the universe will stop expanding and start crunching back up to a state before the big bang

Explain how the universe would end according to the big crunch?

The Big Crunch is the opposite of the Big Bang. It will occur if there is enough matter in the Universe to slow down and reverse it's present expansion. Rather than constantly expanding, everything already in place will come together. That can't be a good thing...

Who discover big crunch theory?

The Big Crunch Theory was not discovered by anyone. It was a theory proposed by many scientists as it does not have one person responsible for it's creation.

How does the big bang theory explain the expansion of your universe?

It doesn't really explain it as describe it. Think of the universe as sort of the smoke and debris that resulted from a massive explosion.

What is the name of the reverse universe?

Peter. The Big Crunch.
