The English Mastiff and The Saint Bernard are generally considered to be the heaviest Dog Breeds. The Mastiff weighs in at about 180lbs for fully grown males, while the Saint Bernard usually comes in at about 180+ lbs.

another answer to this question would be .....yo mama!!
In 1991 The Guinness Book of records recognised an English Mastiff who was owned by a man called Chris Euclades from Muswel Hill. The dog was called Zorba de Souza and was 8ft 3 1/2 inches from his nose to tip of his tail. He weighed at that time 145Kg that's 319Lbs or 22 stone 11bs although in later years he's said to have topped 24 stone!
Somewhere I have a couple of videos of him . One with Johnathan Ross interview and the other with the late Roy Castle on his record breakers program. When I've got time I'll post them on youtube.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the 2011 World's Biggest Dog is George, a purebred Great Dane. He weighs nearly 18 stone and stretches 7 foot long from nose to tail. He is nearly 4 foot high at the shoulder.
Anatolian Shepherd (also known as Kangal Dog)
Great Dane (tallest dog in the world is a great dane)
Irish Wolfhound
English Mastiff
Saint Bernard
Tibetan Mastiff
Swiss Mountain Dog
Kuvasz
Caucasian Mountain Dog
If you are looking to get a very large dog as a pet here are some tips on what breed to choose out of the ten above:
The Anatolian Shepherd is VERY rare in North America. In order to get one you have to get one from Turkey which is where they are bread. Plus they have a very strong protective instinct which could evolve into agression towards people.
The last two dogs( Kuvasz and Caucasian Mountain Dog) are also very hard to get and have a very good chance of becoming aggressive and are not usually a companion pet.
For a companion pet you should go with the Great Dane, Irish Wolfhound English Mastiff, Saint Bernard, Tibetan Mastiff, or Swiss Mountain Dog.
If you are looking for a guard dog I would go with the Swiss Mountain dog, as they are the feircest dogs out of the six above and are relatively easy to get.
The Great Dane holds the record for the world's tallest dog,the Irish Wolfhound is a close second.
The biggest dog on record was a Great Dane. It was 41 and a half inches high!
The largest dog is the Irish wolfhound.
I have seen a dog bigger than me on it's 4 legs and I was 4' 11''
The tallest recorded dog is a Great Dane called 'Giant George' grew to the height of 43 inches.
The following are views from Wikianswers.com contributors:
* Off the top of my head I think it's an Irish Wolfhound. I'm not sure if it's the heaviest, but I believe it's the tallest. The are very tall and most tower a grown man when on their hind legs. * The Great Dane the minimum weight falls between 100 to 120 lb (46 to 54 kg) and the minimum height must be between 28 and 32 inches (71 to 81 cm) at the withers. Most standards do not specify a maximum height or weight. However, a male Great Dane will weigh up to 200 lbs (91 kg). These dogs can be taller than a grown man when on their hind legs. * Old English Mastiffs are bigger in that they are just as tall and can weigh more than 200 lbs.
a Great Dane
The Irish wolfhound is the biggest of all dogs standing ( on four paws) at 35 inches at the shoulder. Then the great dane and the different mastiffes. Than the St. Bernard.
The great dane. I think a Irish Wolfhound is a tiny bit taller than a great dane but the great dane's weigh a tiny bit more. It's weird because the Great Dane look's much skinnier than a Irish Wolfhound.
A Mastiff is the Largest Kind if that is what you are looking for but the biggest dog in the world is a great Dane...was a great Dane. may be dead now.
Irish Wolfhounds are the tallest dog breed, even though some individual Great Danes have recently been acclaimed "tallest dog." Irish Wolfhounds are also heavier than Great Danes, though not as heavy as some Mastiffs. If you're talking about all-round size, the Newfoundland.
It depends, the worlds tallest dog is the great Dane. The worlds heaviest dog would probably be the mastiff.
It depends on what one means by BIGGEST, but typically the heaviest dogs are mastiffs and the tallest are Great Danes or Irish Wolfhounds.p.s lol not it is a chuwawa
That depicts on whether you are talking about weight or height. The tallest dog is the Great Dane, and the biggest in pounds, um.... maybe the Great Dane. I'm not really sure.
"Moose", a mammoth English Mastiff from Vernon, New Jersey holds the title for heaviest dog. In Nov. 2001 he was awarded the title "largest dog in America" on Live with Regis & Kelly, weighing in at 286 lbs. This put him in a tie with the Guinness World Record holder for "heaviest dog", Kell (a Neapolitan Mastiff in the UK). It was later determined that Moose weighed 291 lbs, making him the clear winner.
The Guinness world record for biggest (heaviest) dog was set in 1989 by an Old English Mastiff named "Aicama Zorba of La-Susa", owned by Chris Eraclides of London, England. "Zorba" weighed in at 343 pounds. The biggest dog alive is said to be a female English Mastiff named "Kell", who weighed 286 pounds in 1999.
If your idea of "big" has more to do with height than mass, you'll be interested to know that, according to Guinness, the world's tallest living dog is a Harlequin Great Dane named Gibson. Gibson, from Grass Valley, California, is 107cm (42.2 in) tall and stands 7ft tall on it's hind legs.
