Lithium is element number 3
Its nucleus contains 3 protons and 4 neutrons (Atomic Mass=7) and there are 3 electrons in orbit around the nucleus.
Since there can be only 2 electrons in any orbit. the third electron orbits in a second orbital path, further out from the nucleus.

To draw the diagram you need to draw circles. The first circle contains 2 electrons the second contains 8 third contains 16 and the forth contains 32. Magnesium has 12 electrons. So in the first circle draw 2
