There is a direct correlation between study habits and a students academic performance. Evidently good study habits will have a positive affect on academic performance. Some things to keep in mind are as follows.

* Develop appropriate organizational and time-management skills. List your priorities. * Acquire the best time of the day and environment that is comfortable for you, without distractions. * Do not study continually for hours on end. Study 30 to 45 minutes, take a short break and then return. It will refresh your mind, and issues that may have been confusing will suddenly become clearer. * Reflect from time to time on what you have studied. Think about it, develop real-life examples for yourself. * Learn to take good notes even when studying. Creating good outlines to go back to from time to time can be very beneficial, and makes it easier to recap at a later date.

* Develop good critical thinking skills taking everything into consideration, especially in the area of problem solving and solution-finding. * Develop good written and oral communication skills. This is critical! * Remember, everyone needs help in understanding material from time to time. Do not put if off, and do not be afraid to ask, whether through a friend, faculty member, or anyone you may feel can help you. * Attitude is everything! Keep a positive attitude even when issues appear discouraging. Again, attitude is everything!

To always exercise them. If you practice it you will develop the habits subconsciously. Also, I know schools will have meetings for students to help in their study habits, so make sure to attend those and learn what can help.

Some good study habits I've learned at those seminars are:

1-make sure to study ahead of time and 8 hours of sleep before the test day so your brain can remember more

2- make sure to eat a healthy breakfast before a test

3-sleep in total darkness and no noise, that insures a sound sleep so someone can be focused in the morning

4-if you become tired of studying take 5 min breaks every 30 mins of studying

5-during those breaks, do jumping jacks or some other form of exercising, that increasing waves in your brain to wake up and gives you more focus.

Hope that helps!!

What is the relationship between learning style and academic performance?

A student who has good study habits usually has honed those habits as a child, with a love of learning. While some may consider people are either born good students or not, this is not true and can be learned, although it is a practice much easier to come by when created when most habits are created... before second grade. The reality is when a person enjoys studying, their academic performance goes up, naturally. You will never see a professional ballerina dance for hours on end when he or she loathes dancing. We do what we're good at, and we're good at what we love to do. So, force yourself to study by making it a game if you need to, and get those habits in gear. Before you know it the academic performance will rise. Also note that age has absolutely nothing to do with the learning curve, as far as after high school. An older person who stays in tune with the technological advances, current events, and keeps their wits sharp with puzzles, etc. is often times as bright as a college student. The issue is people tend to relax when they aren't being tested and the academic performance decreases with lack of study habits.

How much time and energy are needed for good study habits?

When you first begin to change your study habits, it seems to take longer -- this is just because you're used to your old habits, though. Good study habits actually take less time once you get used to them, because you don't waste all that time studying the wrong way (the sort of studying where you end up having to go over and over and over something, and still miss that question). Energy-wise, good studying takes more concentration and focus, but is actually less tiring than bad study habits. You're focused in on your work with good habits, and it takes less time and energy overall.
