Na(+1)(aq) + OH(-1)(aq) + H(+1)(aq) + NO3(-1)(aq) <-> Na(+1)(aq) + NO3(-1)(aq) +H2O(0)(l)

notice how the Na with a plus one charge, and the nitrate (NO3) with a minus one charge appear on both sides of the equation. you can cancel these out.

when you do that you are left with

OH(-1)(aq) + H(+1)(aq) => H2O(l)

which is the net ionic equation!

Ba(OH)2(aq) + 2HNO3(aq) -------> Ba(NO3)2(aq) + 2H2O (l)

net ionic equation:

Ba+2 (aq)+2OH- (aq) + 2H+(aq) + 2NO3-(aq) ---> Ba+2(aq)+2NO3-(aq) +2H2O

Now cancel common ions on both sides

New ionic equation is:

2H+(aq) + 2OH-(aq) ----> 2H2O (l)

Total ionic equation:

H+(aq) + NO3-(aq) + Na+(aq) + OH-(aq) ---> H2O(l) + Na+(aq) + OH-(aq)

since water is the only product formed here, and the NaNO3 is fully soluble in water, the sodium and nitrate ions are left out of the net equation and you end up with this...

NET IONIC EQUATION:

H+(aq) + OH-(aq) ----> H2O(l)
