By far the most important book for Christians is the Holy Bible. While other books may be helpful in studying The Bible or in conducting a Christians life, the Bible is the final authority on every issue and every other book should be judged by it. Where any other writing disagrees with the Bible, a Christian should believe the Bible.
If you should desire to get a Bible and are confused about which translation to purchase you should first of all know that all the major translations are accurate and agree with each other - so go to a Christian book store and ask if you may read some from a few different translations (I suggest you read selections from Genesis, Psalms, The Gospel of John and Hebrews) to get a feel for what you are comfortable in reading and understand the best.
