When Mr Darcy tells Elizabeth he loves her and proposes to her the first time because this leads to the resolution of the letter which explains the conflict between Wickham and his involvement with Mr Bingley and Jane. Lydia running off with Wickham is more of a subplot of the story.
The conclusion of "Pride and Prejudice" sees Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy getting married. Elizabeth's younger sister, Lydia, marries Mr. Darcy's friend, Mr. Wickham. The novel ends with all loose ends tied up, highlighting themes of love, marriage, and personal growth.
In brief, all, or nearly all, is as it should be.

Lizzie almost missed out on her chance of happiness with Mr Darcy because she was prejudiced against him following his (it must be said, rather unpleasant) behaviour towards herself and people around him during his stay in Longbourne.
The falling action is the belief of hearsay of someone we do not know thus tainting our first impression of them. Jane made her impression of Mr. Darcy based on this action without first getting to know him. However, he did the same of his impression of the lesser audience of countryside people. But he did continue to evaluate the situation only to discover that he could be wrong. I loved the BBC's 1995 production of Pride and Prejudice of all that has been produced.
