A Clip Hit can be used on many occasions in hockey, usually when a fast hit is required to propel the ball over a longer distance quickly. It is used when it is not practical to push, sweep or hit the ball and because the player may not have room or a chance for a high back swing the clip hit comes in very handy as the back swing is only equivalent to the push or sweep but propels the ball a lot faster and over a greater distance than both the fore mentioned skills.
