Only humans consider religion, because we're apparently too amazing to be a product of nature. We were once 'ape-like', yes. There is infinite times more proof of this as opposed to the existence of any God.

We reached the top of the food chain by being smarter. Through evolution, we became smarter and smarter, losing strength and speed etc. Because instinctively, substantial enough brainpower will overcome superior physical traits - thus rendering any ape-like strength redundant.

The strength of a mammoth could be guessed to be hundreds of times that of a Homo sapiens (early version of us - Latin for, 'knowing man'). Yet a tribe of 10-20 could use superior knowledge and communication to kill the beast. Thus throwing us to the top of the food chain. There is nothing an experienced, prepared group of people cannot kill.

These Homo sapiens did not conceive religion, be it of irrelevance to their existence. Yet now, as we have 'over evolved' into over-thinking individuals, we try to piece together how something as incredible as us exists. Thus, we jump to crazy illogical theories (or did. Religion was much more common in ancient times, in which there were countless religions - everyone was guessing). The more 'plausible' religions, or most 'believable' always tend to outlast others (i.e. Christianity/Islam) because the idea of Zeus and co is apparently insane - yet it has just as much 'proof' as any other major religion of being genuine. By over-evolved, I refer to the fact that a human brain has adopted overly sensitive emotions (no other creature commits suicide).

The majority of modern believers use faith in psychological denial. They do not wish to accept that we are of free accord, without a guardian, and that death is 'game over'. We are as much an organism as bacteria, as far as living is concerned. We are just a much more evolved, successful being.

The majority of Christians are in western civilisation. Ancient Rome was once the dominant force in the west. Their influences impact so much of what is today, including religion. Christianity/Catholicism was decided by Contantine I's (once Roman emperor) personal beliefs. He conveyed/forced God's word into western culture through propaganda like techniques. People back then were much more susceptible to these stories, with the lack of scientific explanation, and therefore the religion was adopted by the people.

In its prime, Christianity caused extremist authorities to re-cease the 'Holy land' during the middle ages. For this, Christianity caused the butchering of innocent people for not believing in their religion. So much for a merciful God... Or is it merciless? The old and New Testament seem to clash with each other.

Jesus's story (virgin birth, execution, carpenter etc.) has been found as a reoccurring story in small-scale religions WAY before the event had apparently taken place in the Christian calendar. What's more, there is literally nothing which can be traced back to prove Jesus's existence, yet apparently he performed so many miracles... Yet we find evidence of ex-Pharaohs from 4000 years ago. Surely the son of God would have got some recognition... I.e, stories written by the thousands of a man who would walk on water, portraits, witness accounts. But no, none seem to have ever existed. Additionally, it seems that he went through giant spates of his life of doing literally nothing with his 'power'. Would the son of God be a carpenter and waste his healing powers? Why was he sent to the barbarian-like deserts of the middle-east, where mythical folklore was rife? Why not to China, whom were already much more advanced?

This technically isn't the answer to your strangely worded question... But it's what I feel is relevant. Now to go and watch the news and see who's been killed by the product of religion. - I could talk all day.
