One reason might be that the tractor company John Deere bought out (Waterloo Gasoline Engine Works) featured green and yellow tractors. Another possible explanation is that John Deere wanted to associate their equipment with agriculture by painting it green and yellow like ripe field corn. There is no for sure answer but these are the two most likely I have found.
